Hi! My favourite thing about science is the surprises you get. You never know when you do an experiment exactly what the answer is going to be, so you are always waiting in anticipation for the result. It can be the best feeling ever when you have worked really hard on something, and then you do the experiments and get a result you didn’t expect, which makes the answer even more interesting than you thought it would be in the beginning!

I like doing something that hasn’t been done before, like walking on fresh snow when you know you are the only person to walk on those snow flakes. I also like questioning things and trying to prove theories wrong and reading about interesting studies that other people have done.

I like finding things out, seeing things differently from other people and then investigating why that may be. I like interviewing, conducting surveys, analysing data, making sense, reading about other interesting work in the field, perhaps done by a scientist in another continent, a few times a year meeting like minded scientists interested in similar areas.

I love learning about the human brain and I particularly like the hands-on approach to learning – it’s great fun being in the laboratory meeting different people every day who take part in my experiments, and having a direct involvement in designing the neuropsychological tasks that we use. The most interesting thing about my work is that there is always something to discover and something new to do, every day is never the same!
