I start around 8 and leave about 5 Monday to Friday but if I have an experiment that will run later or am doing things like “I’m a scientist” I will often stay later. I occasionally work at weekends. In a sense work is also a hobby because I really enjoy it but it’s not all hard work. A good thing about the lab I work in is that if you want to catch a friend for lunch or get your hair done you can as long as you get the work done, it’s flexible like that.
Forty hours a week plus other reading and speaking at conferences. More if there’s a deadline looming. I’m lucky that I can control a lot of my time and work when I want to, so I can take a morning off and work in the evening for example. That freedom means a lot.
Hi Oliviaisamazing (great username)! I spend about 8-10 hours at work most days. There are days it is longer when an important experiment needs finishing but most of the time I can leave at a good time.
