I more interested in spirituality – the mystical and exceptional experiences some people have – than religion – the beliefs people hold about Gods, supernatural forces and the like. Check out God spot on google for a bit about how the brain might be involved in some of these.

Hi Milkbottleman, I am not really religious although I did go to Church of England school and went to church when I was growing up. I believe everyone is free to choose on religion. As a scientist I want things to be proved before I believe them. But then I also think things happen for a reason and believe in fate. I suppose a god could be in charge of that. The teachings of religion are good in the majority and I am glad I had a Christian upbringing. I think religion came about before we had an explanation for life, but now we know about genetics and evolution then that to me is the explanation. But it is up to you what you believe and don’t let anyone change your mind. 🙂

Hello again! I was brought up Catholic and went to a Catholic school. As an adult I still believe in God – even though I am a scientist – mainly because I am open to the idea of a higher being or a higher power.

I’m with Richard Dawkins on this – I think religion is unnecessary and divides people as much as it brings them together. My philosophy is treat everyone as you’d like to be treated, enjoy life while you’re here, and don’t worry about what happens afterwards

      Hey milkbottleman (cool name)
Yes I am religious. I am Catholic. Everyone has a right to believe in any religion that gives them morals and a desire to be a better person or hope for the future. However science is also very multifaith. I work in an office with 6 other people and we all believe different things and come from different backgrounds and cultures but that does not affect how we work as scientists.
